Our Mission: Meeting the needs of inner city kids
Since 1982 UNIQUE Learning Center has partnered with parents, teachers, community leaders as well as a team of volunteers to instill academic excellence and high moral standards in its students. Through academic enrichment, recreational and cultural development, and moral & spiritual guidance, ULC takes a holistic approach to meeting the needs of inner city kids whose lives are daily affected by the negative aspects of urban life. Our programs are made affordable through grant writing, individual and corporate donations, and by each family making a monthly contribution of $10 for each child enrolled.
Our Past: 29 years of touching lives in the Shaw community
Under the leadership of director Sherry Woods, M.Ed., ULC has grown from a small effort with 8 children into a daily after-school and summer program reaching 40 students. With the support of area churches and neighborhood spaces, ULC has been changing the lives of children who would otherwise slip through the cracks of the public school system.
Our Future: A Permanent Home
Working with Forrester Construction, exciting plans are underway to provide a permanent home for our ministry. We have purchased a building that, once renovated, will allow us to enhance and expand our programs to include improved outreach to parents and caregivers. We are grateful for the in-kind services of Goulston and Storrs and Devrouax and Purnell Architects who assisted with the zoning application and initial designs.
